About This Project

Introduction to the Metaproblem

What is the larger, overarching issue that the project aims to address?

Across Costa Rica, especially in the Limon province, healthcare is not equally accessible.
For example, 70–90% of Indigenous people live under the poverty line, compared to only 20% in the rest of the country.

Barriers include:

  • Socioeconomic inequality
  • Geographic isolation
  • Language and cultural gaps

These challenges often leave vulnerable populations without consistent or affordable care, creating deep inequities in health access and outcomes.

Core Problem in the Bioregion

In Talamanca, one of Costa Rica’s most diverse yet underserved regions, many residents including Indigenous, Afro-Caribbean, and migrant populations face disproportionate health challenges.

Factors such as poverty, limited transportation, and systemic inequities reduce access to preventive and urgent care, leading to avoidable suffering and worsening outcomes.

Maternal death and chronic disease rates here are far higher than in the rest of Costa Rica.

Proposed Solution

Salud Para Todos Caribe operates a nonprofit community health center in Hone Creek, combining:

  • Allopathic medicine and traditional natural medicine
  • Community wellness programs (support groups, workshops, and education)
  • Culturally sensitive outreach that serves everyone, regardless of ability to pay

The center is a safe, inclusive, and healing space where body, mind, and community thrive together.

What Makes It Unique

Unlike most public health initiatives, Salud Para Todos Caribe empowers people to become active participants in their own wellbeing.

We do this by:

  • Integrating community knowledge with professional healthcare
  • Reviving local natural medicine traditions
  • Promoting healthy diet and lifestyle education
  • Building bridges between modern and ancestral wisdom

Our approach is grounded in accessibility, equity, and cultural respect ensuring healthcare that is by the community, for the community.

“We heal not only bodies, but also relationships, between people, nature, and culture.”

Why People Should Donate

Donating to Salud Para Todos Caribe supports regeneration, justice, and peace in communities experiencing the frontlines of climate change.

Your contribution helps us:

  • Sustain and expand access to medical care and natural therapies
  • Provide medicines and healing resources (both allopathic and herbal)
  • Grow our education and wellness programs
  • Support volunteer doctors, nurses, and healers who give their time and heart

Together, we can ensure that every person, regardless of income or background, receives the care they deserve.
