The RISE Foundation strengthens South Caribbean Costa Rica through data-driven action, protecting wildlife, supporting vulnerable families and children, and promoting animal welfare to build a thriving, sustainable community for all.
The RISE Foundation is a community-centered foundation dedicated to uplifting Caribbean Costa Rican communities by providing essential funding, services, and support. Our work focuses on conservation, animal welfare, and community wellbeing, creating long-term pathways toward a more sustainable and resilient future.
Founded in 2020 by Shevonne Newton, RISE emerged during one of the most challenging moments in recent history. What began as Puerto Viejo Esenciales - a grassroots relief effort responding to the collapse of Costa Rica’s tourism-based economy during the pandemic—rapidly grew into a vital support network. At the height of the crisis, the initiative provided food, medical aid, and essential resources to more than 350 families facing sudden economic hardship.
Over time, this emergency response evolved into a long-term commitment. Today, the RISE Foundation continues to serve the community through ongoing programs that provide food security, school supplies, healthcare support, housing assistance, and animal care. Our mission remains grounded in compassion, resilience, and collective empowerment - ensuring that every individual, family, and animal has access to the support they need to thrive.
